Panasonic DMC-LX3 review

Jo pointed this review out to me today, and now I want one. It looks like they took everything that's good about my LX-1 and made it completely better.

Shamrock Half Marathon in Sacramento on March 15th

I'm going to be running it. They promise a flat course, and that they'll keep the finish open for 4 hours, which means that it would be possible to walk it. So... anyone want to join me? I think it'll be a lot of fun.

Snapfish "What Does Love Look Like?" Photo Contest

We're having a photo contest, and perhaps I'm sappy, but the theme give me warm fuzzies. As long as you're not my parents or siblings, you're entirely eligible to enter. Ok, shameless plug mode off, back to your regularly scheduled randomness.

I have come to the conclusion that Posterous is missing something in the image headers. This image was rotated correctly when I looked at it before I sent it, and Flickr got the rotation right when autoposted via Posterous. Time to file a bug.

Pandora Quick Tip: create stations using songs, not artists

Right before I created my awesome hip hop station on Pandora, I happened across this FAQ entry, which recommends creating stations using songs, not artists, since that way, you get a more precise station. After having done that a few times now (and deleted all my old stations, because these new ones are so much better), I must say that it is vastly superior to creating stations based on artists.

Back in the Day Radio

Garry recently posted about the artist that did the song Back in the Day, which made me wonder what would happen if I created a Pandora station based on that one song. I have been very pleasantly surprised by the results. I think this is one of the best Pandora stations that I've ever created.

I gave in and signed up for Facebook.

So all of you that are dying to have one more person in your friends list, Just search for me, I'm pretty easy to find. This post also doubles as a test to see if the autoposting to Facebook from Posterous is working as advertised.

Palm rises from the dead

I never would have believed it, but it looks like Palm has figured out how to become relevant again. They announced the Pré today, and it looks awesome. Ars has a rather interesting article, and Gizmodo has videos of it in action. It has a few slowness problems, but if they fix those, I may be all over this once they release a GSM version.

Apple and non-removable batteries

So Apple released the updated 17" MacBook Pro yesterday. While they claim 8 hours of battery, it's all sealed like the MacBook Air. This is not a trend that I like. I have had to replace the batteries on both of my Macs after about 2 years of use, and if I had to potentially leave the laptop for two hours to a week so they can replace the battery that I used to be able to spend 10 minutes replacing, I don't see the progress here. And this is right after I was happy that they had made the hard drive accessible on the new 15" MacBook Pros, as I spent way too much time replacing the HD on my 12" Powerbook, and I dread the time when I need to replace the HD on my current MacBook Pro. We'll see what the portable line up looks like in a year when my Apple Care expires, but if it's all hard wired batteries, the choice to replace the Mac with a laptop running Linux will be even easier.
